Ingredients / Materials

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup salt

  • 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)

  • Fresh or dried herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme, lavender)

  • Rolling pin

  • Cookie cutters or a knife

  • Letter stamps (optional)

  • Straw or skewer for making hanging holes

  • Mod Podge (Satin, Gloss, or Matte) or clear acrylic spray

  • Ribbon or string for hanging

Directions

Step 1: Mix the Dough

Combine the flour and salt in a bowl. Gradually add water while stirring until the dough forms a smooth, non-sticky consistency. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour; if too dry, add a small amount of water.

Step 2: Roll It Out

Lightly flour your surface and roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Step 3: Add Herbs

Sprinkle fresh or dried herbs over the dough. Gently roll over them with the rolling pin to press them into the surface.

Step 4: Cut & Personalize

Use cookie cutters or a knife to cut out shapes. Stamp names, dates, or special words into the ornaments using letter stamps for a personalized touch.

Step 5: Create Hanging Holes

Poke a hole at the top of each ornament using a straw or skewer.

Step 6: Dry the Ornaments

  • Oven Method: Bake at 200°F (90°C) for 2-3 hours, flipping halfway through.

  • Air Drying: Leave the ornaments in a cool, dry place for 1-2 days until completely hardened.

Step 7: Seal the OrnamentsOnce the ornaments are fully dry, seal them with Mod Podge (Satin, Gloss, or Matte) or clear acrylic spray to protect the surface and add a finished look.

Step 8: Thread and Hang

Add a ribbon or string through the hole, and your ornaments are ready to display or gift!

Makes

Approximately 12-15 ornaments, depending on the size of your designs.
